Now we are getting somewhere. Let's make a minimal patch, now that all
the rewriting isn't necessary. Therefore, use the original dev->geo.
statements, and don't rewrite them where before it made sense to
shorthand it. Then in the end, there should be a clean patch, that shows
the identity structure being removed.
